Our calculators use standard aquarium conventions — inch-per-gallon baselines refined by bioload, heater watt-per-gallon rules, standard dilution math. Species-specific needs override every general rule.

Livestock welfare outranks any calculator: research each species' real requirements, cycle tanks fully before adding fish, and treat water tests as the authority over formulas.

Accuracy of calculations

We implement well-known, publicly documented formulas (see the methodology section on each calculator page and established practice standards in the hobby as applicable). Even correctly implemented formulas produce estimates that depend on your inputs and assumptions. Real-world outcomes vary. Do not rely on a single web tool for a consequential decision.
